Why do I have to get my eyes tested before buying contacts?

It is essential for you to visit an eye care specialist before ordering your first pair of contact lenses. You need to make sure that your eyes are healthy and that it's safe for you to wear them. Your eye doctor will also prescribe you with the best contact lens parameters and show you how to handle your contacts and care for them.

To find the right prescription

Eye test before buying contactsYou might be lucky not to need any vision correction, but in order to find that out, an eye test with an optician is necessary. In case you do need vision correction, he will specify what prescription is best for you. An eye care specialist will asses whether you have myopia, hyperopia or presbyopia. He will also find out if you suffer from astigmatism and need toric contact lenses. After running a bunch of tests, he will prescribe you the appropriate contact lenses or glasses. Remember that glasses will have different prescription than contact lenses due to the fact that they are further away from the surface of your eyes.

To fit the right size

Just like shoes, contact lenses come in different sizes and it is very important to find the right one to maximize comfort and safety. Wearing poorly fitted lenses may cause eye irritation and potentially infection, so make sure you know your size very well. There are two parameters constituting contact lens size: base curve (BC) and diameter (DIA). Base curve specifies how curved a lens is and diameter defines, how large it is. The largest lenses you can find in our shop are sclera contacts with the diameter of 22mm, covering the whole of your eye. Your eye doctor will fit you with various contact lens sizes to find out which set of parameters suits you the best. This procedure is a must before buying any contact lenses!

To show you how to use them

If you haven't got any experience with contact leses, your eye doctor needs to show you how to use them. It is very important to know how to put them in and take them out in the correct way. You also need to learn, how to clean and store your contacts so they stay fresh and safe. Ask your eye doctor to show you how it's done. You can also read this article to learn more.

Remember that your safety is the most important thing, so don't take an appointment with your eye doctor for granted. It is necessary for you to know how to use contact lenses and which ones to use. It will not only keep you safe and healthy, but also spare you the disappointment of spending money on something you can't use. Contact lens retailers, including Optyk Rozmus, do not accept returns of opened boxes of contacts, so make sure that you are buying exactly what you need.
